Getting rich in PvE makes the game boring too.
Just ditch the game. Mind you GW kinda makes it hard to get into another online game I found. I've tried several since Factions, and found using anything that isn't the GW UI more of a challenge.

The problem is, some people cant find anything else that is like GW. Other games also feel boring now, normal 'run around for ages doing nothing' style RPGs feel even worse then GW does, or they require a fee to play (I dont sit and play all day everyday anymore, I couldnt get my moneys worth with fees).
I just check into the forums to read about updates, but also I simply cannot find anything else like GW.
Most people who are in the same boat are just waiting for GW2 to be released now, they might not play much of GW1, but they still cant forget how good it was 1-2 years ago.
Someone else commented that there is so much to do in GW that it is the players fault for getting bored.
Actually, there is very little to do in GW after you have finished each campaign and expansion pack, then spent years grinding the elite areas and playing bits of PVE. The reason people are getting bored is from playing the same content over and over again, hence they view GW as a dead game because no more new content is being added, and Anet are now focusing on GW2.
It would have been better if there had been 1 more GW1 chapter to be playing right now, but then GW2 would have been pushed back even longer so its really a no win situation.
Maybe I should try playing The Witcher again, but I hate cell based levels like in NWN and Witcher. Sacred 2 didnt draw me in as much as the first one, but I will reinstall and try it again as well.
Then there is hardly anything else for free to play RPGs.

Don't play it 24\7. When you get bored after an hour or two, done a few missions, switch it off and do something useful.. It will keep the game alive.

If you're bored, go and play another game, any game, come back in a month or two or even three or more and you will probably be able to play again without feeling bored.

I have done that twice for six months each and i am still in love with GW. Actually I am playing GW more than ever right now. Excited about rolling the 4 year mark.

Same. I can't think of another game that would engage me.
The instant gratification system of pvp and stat point flexibility make all other grind based rpgs look like crap. I was thinking of buying Diablo3 but then I got reminded of all the stuff that I didn't like about the old game...the hacking and duping, the kill stealing, the fight over item drops, the random pking and the grossly imbalanced pvp..yeah not to mention the absolute lack of character customization.
After 4 years I'm looking for a new game but everything just looks so blah blah and old hat by comparison.

I obviously wrote that for the sake of parody. I was poking fun at the people who "quit" the game but keep coming here to denounce the game with every post they make. There is nothing wrong with complaining... but coming everyday to forum for a game you don't even play anymore just to talk about how utterly dreadful the game is, is a bit silly. Now, not everyone who stop playing does that, but there are people who do this (I won't point a finger).

I think there is far too much of the "no-one should have an opinion outside praising GW" going on. That said, there is certainly a line between trolling and well placed criticism.
As for why people are critics for a game that they're not finding fun aymore, I think it is to mainly because they want it to be something they find fun again. Guild Wars was the greatest game I had ever played. But, with the updates, nerfs, and added grinds, it has become something far removed from this. In its current state, I don't consider it the best thing I've ever played. I don't think I would even recommend it to friends who were looking for something to play anymore. But, the majority of things I don't like weren't in the game when it was first released.
I do hope Anet takes note of criticisms while finishing up the direction of GW1 and deveoping GW2. It would be fantastic to convince them not to abandon their original ideas that this shouldn't be a game thats all about time spent grinding. But, with talk of endless leveling, and the current state of skills tied to titles, perhaps there is little hope.

There are other games and genres than RPGs and MMOs, you realize, correct? I mean, I'm primarily a console gamer. GW is the only PC game I really play. Whenever I shut off GW I pick up my DS and play Puzzle Quest or Dragon Quest for a while. When I get bored with that, I go play Call of Duty on my 360, or Zelda on my Wii. And so on.
Maybe people shouldn't spend so much time looking for something that's just like GW, because you're not going to find it, and play stuff that's actually different.

now that is so true, after spending few years in GW i got bored, tried to get into some other game but none kept me interested for more than a month (those 1 month ones are the ones that i paid subscription for so i had to play to make my money worth it ^^).
Imo take a break and try your luck in some other game, maybe you find a good replacement

Part of the problem with many games UI is that they just use WoW's (because they figure "everybody" is familiar with it, Warhammer online is one example of this). Thus, if you aren't familiar with WoW, you have no idea what's going on. And the instruction books for most games now a days has like no explanation for even an 8th of what is going on. Anybody who has played WoW has an innate advantage to those who haven't when you try to play another MMO that uses the same interface.

Go get all the PvE skills for all your characters. I did it for all my 16 characters and had to play lots of polymocks.
The problem for me is not that I have nothing left to do, but that I have nobody to do it with. I wish somebody would do DoA, UW, FoW, Urgoz, and Deep regularly with me.

lol, it's destined to become boring. every game becomes boring at one point. after years, it can wear on u. it's not like u can play this game forever. and u haven't even gotten r1 KoaBD yet? imagine how bored u would be if u had already maxed out all the titles! u still have a ton of stuff that u can do, lol. find friends to play with. join a guild. playing with others is what makes this game worthwhile anymore. lol
|
Yeah definitely. Games are going to get boring. Move on. A great MMO I found was Anarchy Online. It is pretty fun being a fr00b, but sometimes it is more empty than Guild Wars PvE. At least it is designed with the solo players in mind. Or you can try RuneScape... if your sanity can handle it.

Amen!
I've been trying to get into WoW lately and it's hard enough having to deal with tanks but man o' man! The amount of stats and different kinds of upgrades they throw at you can make someone's head spin. Just look at all the different stats and you'll see what I mean.

How in the world this is supposed to be simple to learn for new players is beyond me.
Arenanet, please take note and do not make GW2 this needlessly complex!

It really isn't that hard :-p
Wow gets boring fast though and you have to force yourself to level to 80 which takes forever and a half. THEN it supposedly gets fun.

PvE skills pretty much ruined the game for me. I get bored and annoyed the instant I see the builds being run. Homogenizing all the classes with these stupidly overpowered skills was an idiotic idea, and I hope they don't implement them into Guild Wars 2.

:O thank you all very much for reply'ing, I think I'll have on more go at my legendary surviving mesmer, and if that works out, I'll have something to do ( protector, defender titles ) also, I've been looking for other games like Guild Wars, but none is the same actually, most of them contain grinding ( runescape, WoW, etc. ) and I recently got one of my friends to start playing again, so I'm currently kinda tutoring him, explaining the meta and stuff.

/stronglyagree
and* sliver armor is overpowered. if they'd just ditch ebon vanguard assassin support, and By Ural's Hammer, and Ebon Vanguard Battle Standard of Honor, people would be starting to use their own class again. only difference you now see is tanks + pve skills, and echo'ers + pve skills.

Its funny how ppl who play MMOs seem to have these internal arguments that I don't think you'll find in any other walk of life:
"I'm bored, don't want to do this anymore."
"But that's ridiculous, think of all the fun you've had."
"But that's just it, I HAD lots of fun, but I'm not anymore--I'm just doing the same old things all the time."
"They were fun before, why wouldn't they still be fun? Maybe you're not doing it right."
"I'm doing everything the same though. Maybe that's the problem--maybe I need a change of pace by trying a new ganme."
"A new game, when you have the greatest game on all time right here? Why would you, it makes no sense."
And on it goes. Dude, take a break, or quit or whatever. This game thing is supposed to be about fun, and boredom is not fun. Right? Isn't it obvious? You don't really need any advice, do you?
